Temporary Water Discolouration
TOFINO – After the first heavy rains of the season on Thursday, September 12th, Public Works crews noticed discoloured “cedar water” (darkened by naturally occurring tannins) being introduced into Tofino’s water distribution system from the water treatment plant. Discolouration does not affect the health or safety of persons consuming the water, however the treatment plant was quickly shut down to address and flush the discoloured water while Tofino’s three potable water reservoirs took over distribution.
Businesses and residents along Pacific Rim Highway may have experienced a short period of discolouration from the “cedar water” introduced into the system during the night.
We apologize for any inconvenience or concern this may have caused. The water treatment plant is now back online and distributing clear water into the system.
If you notice discolouration in your water, we suggest running outside faucets until the water clears. Please do not hesitate to contact District of Tofino Public Works if the problem persists.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to undertake regular maintenance and testing of Tofino’s water.
