June 2019 - Creative Sector Directory News Release

District of Tofino Working with Cultural Sector on Creative Sector Directory

Creative professional or organization? We want to hear from you.

June 12, 2019

In collaboration with the cultural sector, the District of Tofino recently formed the Events, Arts, Culture and Heritage (EACH) Working Group to deliver the strategies and actions identified in the Tofino Arts, Culture and Heritage Action Plan, which was adopted by Council in October 2018.

The Tofino Arts, Culture and Heritage (ACH) Action Plan is intended to bring resources and momentum to the ACH sector. It will help bring to life the initiatives outlined in past cultural plans and build upon Tofino’s current cultural sector to harness, promote and elevate “the sum of the parts”. The plan will help all ACH interests promote, collaborate, perform, exhibit, seek funding and work collaboratively, enabling the entire sector to rise to greater success. The plan does not focus on any one specific arts or culture discipline, as this initiative is intended to advance the entire sector and provide greater opportunities for all disciplines.

On behalf of the Working Group, the District of Tofino is building a database of Tofino's artists, musicians and creatives  - the people and organizations who bring the community’s arts, culture and heritage sector to life. We hope to see an enthusiastic response over the summer months. The submitted listings will then serve as an on-line database so that the community can connect better with creative professionals and to also help the creative community connect better with each other. Ucluelet residents doing creative work in Tofino are welcome to participate.

In order to better promote cultural offerings, Tofino's monthly events listing is expanding to include arts and culture happenings. If you have an arts, culture or heritage event, workshop or other program, please submit it through the form link on the District’s website . We can then promote more programs through our monthly festivals and events calendar and on-line listings.

If you would like to be included in the creative sector directory or wish to submit an arts, culture and events listing, please visit the following forms by clicking on the image below:

Arts, Culture and Heritage Action Plan

On October 9, 2018 the three year Tofino Arts, Culture, Heritage (ACH) Action Plan was endorsed by District of Tofino Council.  The action plan is intended to align with and complement the goals and strategies in the Tofino Event Strategy, which was accepted by Council in March 2015.  The action plan provides a year by year capacity-building approach to enable greater engagement across the entire sector with help from community partners and the District of Tofino.

This plan is intended to bring resources and momentum to the ACH sector.  It will help bring to life the intentions and initiatives outlined in past cultural plans and build upon Tofino's current cultural scene to harness, promote and elevate "the sum of the parts".  While some arts disciplines are finding success in Tofino, this plan will help all ACH interests promote, collaborate, perform, exhibit, and seek funding, enabling the entire sector to rise to much greater success.  The plan does not suggest focusing on any one arts or culture discipline, but rather it is intended to advance the entire sector and provide greater opportunities for all disciplines.
