How to Make a Payment


Pay your Property Taxes or Utility Bill online or by telephone through your financial institution, at the automatic teller machine (ATM), by mail, or at the Municipal Office by the due date. ♦ We do not accept credit card payments.


Find your Property Folio Number or Account Number

Property folio numbers  and utility account numbers are attached to the property and not the owner. Find your folio number on the top right side of your tax notice and your utility account number at the bottom of your utility bill.
 

Paying your property taxes or utility bill online

Pay your taxes or utility bill through your bank's website. When you pay online, we suggest you pay 3 days before the due date. With most banks, you can schedule your payment ahead of time so you don't forget. Also, remember to claim your Home Owner Grant (if eligible).

  1. Set up The District of Tofino as the payee.
  2. Use your folio number as the account number. Make sure your folio number on your tax notice is the same as the account number set up with your bank.
  3. Check your account balance by July 3, to make sure the payment was successful. If your payment takes longer than 3 days, or is not out by July 3, check with your bank.

Paying by telephone

Pay by phone through your bank's telephone banking service. Contact your bank's customer service line to set up telephone banking if you don't already have it. Remember to claim your Home Owner Grant (if eligible).

  1. Use your folio number as the account number. Make sure your folio number on your tax notice is the same as the account number set up with your bank.
  2. Check your account balance by July 3, to make sure the payment was successful. If your payment takes longer than 3 days, or is not out by July 3, check with your bank.

Paying at the Automatic Teller Machine (ATM)

Pay through the ATM at your bank. Keep your receipt for your payment records. But remember to claim and submit your Home Owner Grant application to the Municipal Office.


Paying by mail

Mail your self-addressed envelope with your cheque or money order payment and remittance stub with Home Owner Grantapplication form completed, if eligible. Make cheques payable to District of Tofino and include your folio number on the cheque. We accept post-dated cheques if you mail your payments in early to avoid late penalty charges. But, make sure the cheque is dated on or before the Property Tax due date.

We must receive your payment by or before the due date at our Office. If your mail is lost or delayed by the Post Office, and does not arrive by the due date, you may receive a penalty charge. The date of post mark or date of bank stamp are not accepted as payment date.


Paying at the Municipal Office: 24-hr drop-off box

Drop your payment, and Home Owner Grant application form (if eligible) in an envelope, in the mail slot at the entrance of the Municipal Office. You can drop off your payment 24 hours a day - but if you pay after midnight the due date, you may receive a late penalty charge.


Paying at the Municipal Office

Bring your bill payment Municipal Office between 9:00am and 4:00pm, before the due date. To receive faster service, bring a prepared cheque and completed Home Owner Grant application, if eligible.To avoid waiting in lineups and finding parking during busy tax times, please consider our other convenient payment options.


Paying through your mortgage company

If you're paying your property taxes through your mortgage company, claim your Home Owner Grant (if eligible) online by the due date, to avoid late penalty fees. You are responsible for communicating with your mortgage company and managing this service to ensure the balance owing is paid by the due date to avoid late penalty charges.
