The District of Tofino offers a variety of parking options, including unrestricted and pay-to-park zones, to cater to the needs of both residents and visitors. Each location has clear signage that provides information on parking regulations and any restrictions that apply. The District urges all drivers to pay close attention to these signs to comply with local rules and avoid any fines.

Downtown Pay Parking

Downtown Pay Parking is in effect daily from 9 AM to 6 PM, from May 1 through October 31.

The District of Tofino encourages all visitors and residents to carefully observe all posted parking signs and restrictions when visiting the downtown core.

Free parking is available from 6 to 9 AM and 6 to 11 PM year round. Overnight parking is prohibited.

Downtown has sections of time-restricted parking that offer free parking for 15 minutes to 2 hours, available all year round.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation, such as biking, walking, and public transit, instead of driving and parking in the downtown core when possible.

Residents

Tofino, Tla-o-qui-aht, Ahousaht, and Hesquiaht residents can gain free access at Downtown Pay Parking locations by registering for an annual Beach Pay Parking permit.

Ucluelet and other Alberni Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) community residents qualify for a 50% discount on this annual pass.

Beach Pay Parking

Beach Pay Parking is enforced daily from 8 AM to 11 PM throughout the year at all District of Tofino beach access points, including Mackenzie Beach, Chesterman Beach, and Cox Bay. This applies to dedicated parking lots and marked roadside parking in these areas.

The District of Tofino urges all visitors and residents to carefully observe all posted parking signs and restrictions when visiting the beach.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation, such as biking, walking, and public transit, instead of driving and parking to beach accesses when possible.

Residents

Tofino, Tla-o-qui-aht, Ahousaht, and Hesquiaht residents can get a free annual Beach Pay Parking permit. These permits also give residents free access to applicable Downtown Pay Parking zones.

Ucluelet and other Alberni Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) community residents qualify for a 50% discount on this annual pass.

Offshore Parking

Eligible residents of offshore communities can obtain annual parking permits for vehicle parking within the District of Tofino. These permits can be acquired from the Municipal Hall and are valid in specially designated parking areas and stalls reserved for offshore permit holders.

Offshore Parking permits do not allow vehicles to be parked beyond posted time limits or in pay lots without a applicable permit.

Qualifying for a Permit

To qualify for a permit, offshore residents must provide:

  • A current licence plate number; and
  • Proof of offshore residency* (current vehicle insurance documents or a current driver’s licence)

Visitors and persons who do not have a permanent offshore address do not qualify for parking permits.

Other Forms of Proof Include: Current Lease or Purchase Agreements; Recent Telephone, Cable or Utility Bills; Recent Credit Card or Bank Statements.

Applying on Someone Else's Behalf: Please bring all necessary documentation noted above.

Contractors/Temporary Offshore Workers: Offshore communities have been issued limited permits for temporary contractors/workers. Please get in touch with the administration office for the relevant community for more information about obtaining a temporary permit while working offshore.
